Lecturer Job Vogels went to Leuven with five students this Spring. They were guests of UCLL, organizing partner university in the Businet-IT network of an international week The AI for winning an unfair team. Job shares a short story and pictures as a review at the week.
There was a very inspiring pitch from football club OH Leuven on Monday morning about a lot of available data. For this they need the students to provide insight into what would be interesting players for OHL to acquire for the selection.
The students were received at the Leuven town hall for the group projects. A nice surprise, and a expression of appreciation by the city of Leuven. The importance of data for Leuven's football success was reiterated by the city council.
As part of the experience of the international week the students explored Leuven's nightlife well too. Job had time for nice morning walks.
On Friday, it was time to present the results. The students worked in project groups and collectively delivered a result. For this, a lot of preparatory work was done with SQL and statistical analyses were still carried out by some groups with R. There was 1 group that had built an interactive R-shiny app. This was ultimately the winning group.
