International week STEM Iceland: The geology behind Geothermal Energy
A group of ICT & Business and Technology students participated at the international week in Iceland end October. This project took the form of a short Field Trip to Iceland to experience the unique changes undergoing the island that contribute to its abundance of geothermal energy production.
With the current and ongoing seismic and volcanic activity this project can bring to life your understanding of the STEM subjects within a very special environment.

Recap by the students
Our experience in Iceland was good. We first travelled around ourselves for 3 days before participating in the ExpLearn programme, which allowed us to get to know Icelandic culture in a nice way. Then we had the days for the assignment with ExpLearn and went out daily to destinations like the HS Orca Power Plant power plant and an Icelandic food market. These fieldtrips were interspersed with presentations/activities, so there was often something to do.
However, this was a pilot project, so this was one of the first times this project was held. This meant not everything went smoothly, here you can think of awkward time schedules and logistical problems. Despite these little problems, Iceland is definitely worthwhile and we can recommend it to other students who want to take an unique assignment/experience!
