Fontys International IT Week in TQ

28/03/2024

We hosted a group of guest students from 5 different partner universities, mainly Belgian partners but also Denmark was represented, as well as some Fontys students .
They came together to explore and innovate within the digital landscape. During the week the mixed project groups worked on a design challenge.
This year, our guiding theme is "How to Stay Human in a technology-driven Society" with a special focus on "How to Keep Moving in a Digital Society."

Assignment
In an era where digital devices dominate our lives, from smartphones to laptops, and virtual realities become our secondary habitats, the importance of physical movement has never been more critical. Our sedentary lifestyles, dictated by screens and digital interactions, pose significant challenges to our physical well-being and mental health. This week, the guiding lecturers challenged our participants, to think beyond the confines of our digital existence and develop concepts and prototypes that encourage and facilitate movement in every aspect of our lives.

Students were invited to approach this challenge with creativity and open-mindedness. Whether it's designing a learning game that encourages children to move while absorbing knowledge, rather than sitting still at their desks, or creating a solution that prompts individuals to stand and walk after prolonged periods of screen time, ideas should have the potential to inspire change. Consider solutions that not only cater to the young but also to individuals like Grandma Annie, a symbol of our beloved elders, who might need that extra nudge to enjoy the outdoors and engage with their community over a cup of coffee.

The outcomes of group work could pave the way for healthier, more dynamic lifestyles, counteracting the passive tendencies of our digital age. Ending in innovative solutions that keep us moving, connecting, and, most importantly, staying human in our increasingly digital society. Embracing the challenge and make a meaningful impact together.

The week programme was full of inspirational sessions and guest lectures by colleagues of Game Design, Smart Mobile and Open Learning.
During the week and at the end students were very enthusiast and had fun for sure.
The guest students stayed at the Blue Collar Hotel at Strijp-S, close to the Fontys ICT InnovationLab. As a good host university we offered daily lunches and two times dinner by a foodtruck. The Cultural Tastings on Monday was great and fun!

Meanwhile looking forward to two large international project weeks on Campus Rachelsmolen in April, but for sure considering a wider setup of the International IT Week at TQ in 2025.
